As Thailand enters its prime hiking season, digital travel platform Agoda reports a rise in accommodation searches for mountain destinations. From November to February, as the rainy season ends and the cooler months arrive, Thailand’s hiking trails come alive. Fresh air, clear skies, and comfortably mild temperatures create perfect conditions to reconnect with nature and escape the bustle of city life.
Based on accommodation searches made during the month of October on Agoda, destinations known for hiking and cooler climates saw sharp increases for stays between November 2025 to February 2026, compared to the warmer season earlier in the year. Searches for Chiang Mai rose by 254%, followed by Tak (+230%), Loei (+190%), and Kanchanaburi (+95%).
This trend aligns with the fact that across Asia, the appeal of domestic travel is growing, with 2026 Travel Outlook Report by Agoda results revealing that over a third of Asians (35%) plan to travel more domestically than internationally—a sharp rise from just 15% last year. Lesser-known destinations are starting to capture the attention of Thai travelers, with factors such as available budget options and unique cultural experiences emerging as the top reasons for choosing secondary destinations.
Akaporn Rodkong, Country Director, Thailand at Agoda, said: “Thailand’s hiking season offers an extraordinary chance to reconnect with nature. At Agoda, we are committed to making travel accessible and affordable for everyone, helping travelers uncover these unforgettable experiences while ensuring their adventures are simple to plan and tailored to their needs. Whether it is challenging trails that test hikers’ limits or family-friendly paths that invite exploration at a gentler pace, we want every journey in Thailand’s outdoors to be inspiring and memorable.”
Agoda recommends the following destinations for travelers looking to make the most of the season:
- Kew Mae Pan, Chiang Mai is a popular nature trail in Doi Inthanon National Park where hikers walk along a 3.2 km path through cloud forest, mossy trees, and ridge-line meadows before reaching a viewpoint with stunning sunrise and “sea of mist” mountain panoramas. Travelers are required to hire a local guide, with a small fee per group, as solo hiking is not allowed. Many praise it as ideal for beginners and families, offering easy to moderate difficulty, fresh mountain air, and scenic views.
- Doi Thu Le, Tak offers a challenging yet rewarding adventure for hikers seeking raw mountain beauty. Rising about 1,350 meters, its trails pass through dense forests and fog-covered ridges, providing breathtaking views along the way. The main ascent, known as the Thule route, is steep and demanding, while the Mon Klui route is slightly easier for less experienced hikers.
- Phu Kradueng, Loei remains a bucket-list hike in Thailand because of its dramatic ascent and unforgettable summit experience. The trail is tougher than many expect, with sandy and shifting ground that makes the climb physically demanding. At the top, the mountain opens into a vast plateau about 1,316 meters above sea level, offering sweeping forested landscapes, cliffs, cloud-kissed mornings, and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Despite the challenge, hikers describe the journey as worth every effort.
- Khao Chang Phueak, Kanchanaburi rises to about 1,249 meters, making it the highest mountain in Thong Pha Phum National Park. The hike spans roughly 8 kilometers and takes around six hours to reach the summit, where hikers are rewarded with a 360-degree panoramic view of forested ridges and valleys. The most famous and thrilling section of the trail is the narrow knife-edge ridge, a dramatic stretch where hikers must carefully walk across a very thin path for a breathtaking reward.
